Grounded Truth Theory: A Scripturally Grounded Methodology for Theological Research

Developed by Dele Alaba Ilesanmi, Grounded Truth Theory (GTT) is a research methodology that prioritizes biblical revelation over secular empirical data. This paradigm serves as a faith-based alternative to traditional social science models, asserting that divine truth is a fixed reality found within Scripture rather than a human construct. At its core, the system utilizes a seven-dimensional matrix—covering aspects such as the ontological, epistemological, and practical—to systematically test and validate theological claims. By integrating academic rigour with the principle of Sola Scriptura and Scriptural Realism. GTT provides a structured framework for resolving doctrinal conflicts and ensuring spiritual discernment. Ultimately, the model bridges the gap between scholarly inquiry and church practice, offering a replicable process to verify orthodoxy and apply biblical principles to modern life. The purpose of this research note is to review the Delean Grounded Truth Theory for a better understanding of the concept with significant recommendations for stakeholders’ implementation.
